ABOUT
Silesia is one of the most visually diverse regions in Poland, where industrial heritage meets modern urban space and natural landscapes. Within a relatively small area, it offers a dense mix of locations shaped by history, industry, and transformation.
The region is defined by its authenticity, with former coal mines, steelworks, and workers’ housing estates alongside vibrant cities and green areas. It is a place where strong visual identity meets production efficiency.
02
LOCATIONS
Silesia offers a wide spectrum of locations, from unique industrial sites rarely found elsewhere in Europe to modern cityscapes and historical architecture. Filmmakers can access coal mines, steelworks, post-industrial complexes, and distinctive urban districts, alongside castles, lakes, and the mountainous landscapes of the Beskids. The high concentration of diverse locations within short distances allows for fast and flexible production across different visual styles.
03
Production Support
Silesia Film Commission supports productions at every stage, from location scouting to permits, logistics, and on-set coordination. A key element is the Silesian Film Fund, which offers financial support for feature films, series, and other audiovisual projects, requiring regional spend. The region provides strong technical infrastructure, experienced crews, and a growing network of animation and VFX studios. Productions filmed in Silesia include Winter of the Crow (dir. Kasia Adamik), Chopin, Chopin! (dir. Michał Kwieciński), Lead Children (dir. Maciej Pieprzyca), The Eastern Gate (dir. Jan P. Matuszyński), The Zone of Interest (dir. Jonathan Glazer), and Der Palast (dir. Uli Edel). The region is part of one of Europe’s largest metropolitan areas GZM, offering excellent transport and production accessibility.
