ABOUT

Łódź is a UNESCO City of Film where industrial heritage meets contemporary urban life. The city has a strong cinematic identity, shaped by decades of film production and education. Former textile factories, palaces, and a dense urban fabric create a layered environment that naturally blends different historical periods.

Łódź has long been a creative hub, attracting filmmakers, artists, and production companies working across both Polish and international projects.

LOCATIONS

Łódź offers a wide range of locations within a compact urban area, from 19th-century industrial complexes and revitalised factories to elegant palaces and modern developments. Its architecture allows it to double for multiple European cities, making it highly adaptable for international productions. The city’s streets, courtyards, and post-industrial spaces provide raw, authentic textures, while film studios and controlled environments are also easily accessible. This diversity makes Łódź particularly efficient for productions working across different visual styles.

Production Support

Łódź Film Commission supports productions with permits, locations, and on-the-ground coordination, working closely with key institutions such as the National Film School, WFO, and the Łódź Film Centre. The city offers preferential conditions for film production and has a long track record of supporting both local and international projects. Łódź Film Commission is also the operator of the oldest regional film fund in Poland, which since 2007 has supported more than 140 film and audiovisual productions. Recent productions include The Girl with the Needle (dir. Magnus von Horn), Pixie: The New Beginning (dir. Krzysztof Komander), The Last Expedition (dir. Eliza Kubarska), Forrest (dir. Lidia Duda), and The Pool or Death of a Goldfish (dir. Daria Kopiec). Łódź is also a strong centre for animation, with internationally recognised studios such as Momakin and Yellow Tapir Films.
